Are you eagerly anticipating the arrival of your newborn and planning for a session to capture those precious early moments? Preparing for this type of photoshoot involves more than just scheduling a date. To ensure a smooth and successful experience, use these tips for your newborn session as some guidelines!
The first tip in preparing for your newborn session is to make sure you have scheduled with your photographer well in advance. I always suggest scheduling it within the first two months after your baby’s birth. This timeframe captures the earliest moments of your baby’s life when they are most sleepy, curled up, and naturally photogenic.
Select rooms within your home that are flooded with natural light. Large windows or well-lit spaces provide soft, flattering illumination that enhances the beauty of your newborn’s features and creates a warm, inviting atmosphere for your photoshoot. As your newborn photographer, I will always make sure we find the right spots in your home and will guide you along the way in this process.
If you are opting for an outdoor session, you can skip this tip!
Embrace neutral and light colors when considering the backdrop and décor for your newborn session. Soft tones such as whites, creams, and pastels create a timeless and serene aesthetic, allowing the focus to remain on your baby’s purity and innocence.
Before the photoshoot begins, feed your baby to ensure they are well-nourished and content. A full tummy can help keep your little one calm and settled throughout the session. Additionally, have extra diapers and wipes on hand to address any unexpected messes or accidents that may occur. Although, we will take as many breaks as needed for more feedings and soothing!
If you are wanting an in home session, remember that your house doesn’t need to be spotless. While decluttering and tidying up are recommended in the rooms we will shoot in, perfection isn’t necessary.
By following some of these tips for your newborn session, you can optimize the conditions for a successful shoot. With careful planning and attention to detail, we will create a beautiful collection of images that perfectly capture the precious early days of your baby’s life.
